Farsight gets into the festive spirit

Every December, Heart of the Forest Special Community School holds a Christmas concert featuring all of the children from the school. Farsight was there to capture the event, filming with a two-camera set up to cover all the angles. Here we are, all ready to go:

DVDs were on sale for parents in order to have a special memento of the concert and were delivered just in time for the end of term.

Using magic to share an important healthcare message

Farsight was privileged to be working with Public Health Wales to help promote an important message about Antimicrobial Resistance. Work is currently being done to raise awareness among the general public about the correct use of antibiotics to slow down the rate that bacteria becomes resistant to drugs designed to fight infection.

The skills of magician James Went were drawn upon to communicate this important message and Farsight was enlisted put the film together.

Here's a pic of the shoot in action, taking place in a pharmacy in Maesteg.

It Makes Sense - Campaign Film

Farsight was recently commissioned to produce a short film to support the NHS Wales 'It Makes Sense' campaign. This initiative was designed to raise awareness about the needs of people with sensory loss within the healthcare system – both for staff and for patients / service users.

For the production, we filmed a series of interviews which were edited together along with some animated text and graphics. They were then translated into Welsh and given Welsh subtitles. Finally, a BSL (British Sign Language) user translated the video for the deaf community. This was filmed using a green screen and teleprompter.

Wedding videos shot this year

Farsight has had the pleasure of capturing the special day of three couples this year. Most weddings have a traditional structure but no two are ever the same, since couples are trying to put their own personal 'stamp' on the celebration more and more these days.

Production of a video for a wedding should be as unobtrusive as possible and yet able to capture key, intimate moments. Here are highlights of each wedding, one of which we had the pleasure of travelling to Mallorca for.

These films were produced in collaboration with AME Videography and Photography. We are able to provide a full, combined video and photo package for your wedding at a lower cost that hiring separately – please get in touch.

Filming Young People about politics

Farsight has been working on a couple of films for the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD) which draws together social science researchers from a number of disciplines including sociology, economics, geography and political science. The Institute is based within five Universities in Wales: Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, South Wales and Swansea, and works in partnership with other UK Universities.

These films were conceived as a way of capturing the views, experiences and opinions of young people about politics. This was particularly timely in the run up to and in the wake of Brexit. Production of the films involved interviewing numerous young people in various locations across Wales, with the aim of capturing a cross section of society.

Event filming for Cervical Screening Wales

Farsight has completed a short film on behalf of Cervical Screening Wales to highlight their event in Cardiff (HPV: Where are we now and what does the future hold?). As well as filming all of the main speakers at the conference, a short film was produced as a summary of the day including snippets of the event and interviews. Production was a quick turnaround with videos of the main speakers available the following day.

Farsight involved in making short film, Refuge

Earlier in the year, Farsight was involved in making a low-budget short film. Inspired by the refugee crisis, 'Refuge' imagined what life would be like for us if we in the UK were the ones plunged into the middle of a civil war. With limited resources and very little time to pull it together, it was a major challenge – all the cast and crew (before, during and after production) were amazing though, and the final edit was eventually completed in July.

Now that the film has been submitted to various film festivals, we are able to make it public via social media:

Please note: there is one particular scene featuring blood which some might find slightly off putting (it's just after the 4 minute mark).

Please feel free to share via social media etc.

Hope Not Hate Wales is a community organisation that exists to provide a positive antidote to the politics of hate. They combine research with community organising and grassroots actions to defeat hate groups at elections and to build community resilience against extremism.

We agreed on producing a short animation using dynamic text and images, which was put together using Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. Filming for Diabetes Network

Farsight Creative has recently worked on series of videos for The Children and Young People’s Wales Diabetes Network (and Brecon Group).

One of the videos, ‘Introduction to Insulin Pumps’, Presented by Dr Davida Hawkes and nurse specialist Corinna Bretland, looks at the advantages and occasional challenges of using insulin pump therapy and showcases a range of pumps that are available.

The guide has been produced by the network as a resource for teams across Wales. Clinicians will be able to direct people to the network website or to the Wales network’s YouTube page.

Dr Davida Hawkes works in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, which is based in Newport. She says, “These videos are a great example of how paediatric diabetes teams across Wales can work together to deliver high quality resources that help all teams engage with children, young people and their families.”

“We hope this video will be used by all clinical teams to start conversations about insulin pump therapy, the benefits it can bring and the issues that need to be considered."

The videos were produced with the help of Gavin from Gavin Owen Media.
